The Undersong
|
The Undersong is an audio portrait of the people
and towns of Overstrand and Sidestrand in North Norfolk made in collaboration
with local people of all ages. An area threatened by coastal erosion
from the sea, this place is full of rich history and folklore. This
work weaves together the voices of fishermen, local characters, singers
and musicians in six segments:
1. A Fishing Village Excerpts are available to hear on a series of listing posts stationed around Overstrand, outside the Belfry Arts Centre, at the information point in the village and on the cliff top overlooking the sea. Undersong was commissioned and produced by Nora Gaston and The Belfry Arts Centre with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund and North Norfolk District Council, and the kind support of Alistair Murphey of Cromer Museum, Richard Lees of Cromer Lifeboat, The Belfry Primary School and Northreps Primary School. A CD and related publication is also available through The Belfry Arts Centre.
